ASTORIA SUBWAY STATION'S NEW ELEVATORS PUT INTO SERVICE

After many months of work, new elevators are now operational at the Astoria Boulevard N/W subway station in Astoria, Queens, New York, the Astoria Post reported on July 24. State Senator Michael Gianaris announced the opening of the four elevators — two each from street to mezzanine and mezzanine to platform — and lauded the work as “a step forward for all transit passengers.” The station was shut down in March 2019 for a major renovation that included demolishing and rebuilding the mezzanine. While the station reopened in December 2019, work on the elevators continued until July. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has been repairing the entire Astoria N/W line since 2017, with work focusing on both its tracks and station interiors.
