40,000 SHANGHAI LIFTS REMOTELY LINKED TO CITY PLATFORM

Regulators in Shanghai say about 40,000 of the city's elevators are now equipped with remote-monitoring links connected to the city's operation management platform, enabling automatic monitoring and alarms to improve responses to emergencies, Shine reported on July 7. The Shanghai Administration for Market Regulation said the installations can spot sudden breakdowns, and, if people are trapped, automatically notify the city's intelligent elevator platform. The platform can locate and identify the elevator, then alert maintenance and repair companies. Cameras will show if someone is trapped, allowing for quick dispatch of rescuers. The city's 270,000 elevators are in the process of having QR codes posted that will allow riders of stalled elevators to immediately report their locations.
