U.K. ORGANIZATION ISSUES UPDATED LIFT-TESTING GUIDELINES

The Safety Assessment Federation (SAFed), a membership organization in the U.K. representing the interests of independent inspectors of manufacturing plants, systems and machinery, has updated its 2009 guidelines on supplementary testing of vertical-transportation equipment. Overseen by SAFed representative Vince Sharpe and Nick Mellor of the Lift & Escalator Industry Association, the revisions include new sections for unintended car movement protection and automatic power-operated doors, and a recommendation that equipment owners retain records of supplementary tests, which are intended to support thorough examinations of in-service lifts.
