PUNJAB ELEVATOR SIGN COMPLIANCE LAGS

       The Hindustan Times recently reported that the Indian state of Punjab has not complied with an order from the high court to affix safety certificates in all the lifts installed in its housing societies per the Bombay Lift Act (1939), although Punjab has not yet enacted a lift act. A 2018 contempt petition by apartment residents prompted the high court to direct the Zirakpur municipal council and local government to affix safety certificates in individual lifts. Sanjay Goyal, chairman of the Indian Institute of Architects, Punjab Chapter, said such an act is the need of the hour for the safety of residents due to there being many housing societies in the state.
