SHANGHAI OFFICIALS REPORT FIXING SAFETY PROBLEMS
The Shanghai Administration for Market Regulation says it rectified 20,355 equipment safety risks among elevators, large amusement equipment and boilers in 2019, Shine reported on March 31, though it did not specify how many of these problems involved vertical-transportation equipment. The regulators also noted five accidents — none considered major — but, again, did not break them down by type of equipment. By the end of the year, the city registered 263,913 elevators. Remote-monitoring devices were installed on 12,589 of the units last year, and 12,000 were posted with QR codes that allow users to track maintenance records. The report noted safety evaluations were conducted on 3,131 older elevators in 2019, but the results of the evaluations were not given.
