EIGHT PEOPLE TRAPPED IN CALGARY TOWER ELEVATOR

Eight people were trapped in an elevator in Calgary Tower when the cables “snapped,” Narcity  reports. The Calgary City Fire Department said the elevator fell several feet when two of the six cables reportedly broke. The braking system stopped the elevator from falling farther. A second drop happened when a technician was working on the elevator, but the brakes stopped the cab again after it fell several more feet. The group of passengers was trapped inside the elevator for about three hours. Each passenger had to be individually harnessed and pulled through the scuttle hatch to be rescued. There were no reported injuries. Calgary Tower, which stands 191 m high, is closed until the elevator is repaired.
