INOPERABLE ELEVATOR BLAMED FOR DEATH OF CONDO RESIDENT

Residents of a four-story condominium building in Bridgeport, Connecticut, are blaming an out-of-service elevator for the death of a wheelchair-bound man who was found unresponsive in his condo on June 20 after canceling a doctor’s appointment, FOX61 News reports. The night before he died, the man called a local pastor and told him complaints to city and state officials about the inoperable elevator were “falling on deaf ears.” The building’s property manager told the source a pipe leak soaked the elevator components about a month earlier, making the elevator inoperable, and that parts are hard to find since the unit is 35 years old. The city Health Department says the property company “has always been fully responsive to complaints,” but residents say this is untrue.
