1960s NEW ORLEANS WTC TO BE REBORN AS FOUR SEASONS


The former World Trade Center tower at 2 Canal Street on the New Orleans waterfront, a cruciform-shaped, 33-story structure designed by Modernist architect Edward Durell Stone, hosted a groundbreaking on May 1 for its transformation into a Four Seasons Hotel and Private ResidencesThe New Orleans Advocate reports. During the event, attended by Mayor Mitch Landrieu and principals of co-developers Woodward Investments and Carpenter & Co., non-functioning escalators were covered by white curtains. An exterior construction elevator is expected to go up at the site in coming weeks so crews can access the interior and perform demolition and remediation. Housing 341 hotel rooms and 81 residences, the Four Seasons is set to open in 2020.
