ELEVATOR UPGRADE FOR 1960-ERA UNITS IN CANADIAN HOSPITAL

A CAD750,000 (US$557,486) modernization of a pair of elevators installed in 1960 is part of CAD4.5 million (US$3.3 million) in improvements coming to Chilliwack General Hospital in Chilliwack, Canada, The Chilliwack Progress reports. The units were last upgraded in 1984, and finding replacement parts is challenging, according to hospital authorities. The source observes the elevators look like “something out of a horror movie,” and are frequently out of service. The improvements, which also include more than doubling the size of the morgue to hold 18 bodies, are being partially funded by the Fraser Valley Regional Hospital District.
