DEVELOPER: NYC TOWER STRUCTURALLY SAFE DESPITE 3-IN. LEAN

Developer Fortis Property Group, LLC says the 670-ft.-tall, 60-story One Seaport, aka 161 Maiden Lane, in the Financial District of NYC is structurally safe despite new reports revealing a 3-in. northward lean, New York YIMBY reports. The issue created legal disputes between Fortis and contractor Pizzarotti LLC, with the parties respectively claiming that poor construction practices were used and that a cheaper construction method — instead of the traditional one of using pilings driven into the ground — were implemented on the manmade plot. They have since parted ways, and Fortis has hired a new contractor: Ray Builders, which redesigned and resumed construction on the curtain wall. The building was designed by Will West Architects. It is unknown whether the One Seaport issue will affect construction of other tall towers nearby.
