MAN DIES AFTER TOKYO ELEVATOR INCIDENT

A 50-year-old man operating a forklift died April 8 “after getting caught in an elevator door” at Tokyo's Toyosu fish market, Japan Today reports. The 50-year-old worker reportedly hurried to get into the cargo elevator on the first floor of the market as the vertical elevator door was closing, surveillance showed. He was taken to the hospital but later confirmed dead with a broken spine. The Tokyo metropolitan government and the market industry group said in a joint statement that they will work to enhance safety management to prevent similar accidents.
