IN MEMORIAM: PETER RUSTOM

Peter Rustom, a respected leader in the elevator industry who served many years in Asia in positions that included the lead role in the founding of Schindler in Singapore and Western Malaysia, died February 10 at age 83, after a battle with cancer. Rustom was active in several elevator-industry associations, including the Lift and Escalator Contractors Association of Hong Kong, serving as president from 1983-1987. He also was a longtime ELEVATOR WORLD correspondent. He began his elevator career in 1965 as a sales engineer with Otis London, but eventually took on a variety of roles, including a year of field training in the West Indies. He joined Jardine Schindler in Hong Kong in 1974 and was put in charge of opening the Singapore and Western Malaysia office. He later returned to Hong Kong, serving in multiple roles with Jardine Schindler. He retired in 1993. A devoted family man, Rustom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Celia; sons, Roger and Graham; daughter, Anna; and grandchildren, Sarah, Joe, Sennen, Milly, Tom, Phoebe, Ben, Larissa, Michael Lee and Khyra.
