NINE HURT IN HONG KONG ESCALATOR ACCIDENT

Nine people riding an escalator at a Mass Transit Railway (MTR) station in Hong Kong were hurt when their feet were struck by a component sticking out of a side panel, The Star reported. The incident occurred during the morning rush on February 28 at the Ngau Tau Kok station. An MTR staff member shut down the escalator and the injured were taken to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries was not reported. A spokeswoman for the railway said the maintenance contractor had been summoned to examine the escalator, and added that services at the station were not disrupted.
