MAN FALLS DOWN ELEVATOR SHAFT IN SOHO, HOSPITALIZED

A man described as a vendor who was servicing the historic, mixed-use Puck Building at 281 Mulberry Street in the Soho neighborhood of Manhattan, New York, fell down an elevator shaft from the first to the basement floors on February 26, and was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, Patch is among news outlets to report. According to the Department of Buildings (DOB), the man used a drop key — which is only supposed to be used by elevator technicians and emergency responders — to open the elevator doors. The DOB found no issues with the elevator but issued a violation to the building owner for failing to safeguard it.
