MODERNIZED VT UNITS PART OF STAMFORD TRAIN STATION UPGRADE

Modernization of 17 escalators and five elevators is part of a US$22.9-million overhaul of the Stamford Transportation Center train station in Stamford, Connecticut, various news outlets, including the Stamford Advocate, report. Described by the source as "a parting gift" from outgoing governor and former Mayor Daniel P. Malloy, the work is being funded by a US$9.2-million federal grant and US$13.7 million from the state. The upgraded vertical-transportation (VT) equipment will help ensure the station operates more efficiently for at least 25 more years. The VT upgrades join others, such as a new parking garage, a new train lane, and lighting, restroom and communications improvements.
