ROME ESCALATOR ACCIDENT REPORT TO TAKE SEVERAL MONTHS


An engineering consultancy’s report on an escalator malfunction at the Repubblica metro station in Rome on October 23 in which 24 people were injured is expected to take at least three months, Wanted in Rome reports. The station will remain closed while the investigation is ongoing. Most of the approximately 100 people on the escalator when it suddenly accelerated were visiting Russian soccer fans, one of whom lost part of his foot. Initial reports that the fans were jumping on the escalator were dismissed after video footage was published. As of November 9, the public prosecutor had yet to appoint a consultant.
