The National Elevator Industry, Inc. (NEII®) recently announced that the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries has adopted two new rules for elevators under “Washington Administrative Code 296-96, Safety Regulations and Fees for All Elevators, Dumbwaiters, Escalators, and Other Conveyances.” The updated rules for equipment are based on ASME A17.1-2016/CSA B44-16, and a second set of rules includes updates to the licensing requirements. They took effect on October 1. The adopted rule language, rule forms, a “Concise Explanatory Statement” and more can be viewed on the department's website. On January 1, 2019, Colorado will begin requiring licensed contractors to conduct annual safety tests within 60 days prior to licensed inspectors completing annual inspections. Updates can be found in the quarterly Colorado Conveyance Program bulletin.
